Love the corporate world?

I met up with Ducky last weekend for coffee. Nice coffee, because we went to San Francisco Coffee and paid RM10 or more for a cup of frapp. The barista looked damn pissy when I kept calling their ice blended frap because frap is usually associated with Starbucks. Ducky paid for our coffee because she said she has a job and I'm on freelance basis. Fine, I'm okay with freebies. Then we sat down, took out our cigarettes, sipped on the coffee and started the usual chat about life, work, love, the usual stuff.

She told me that her boss is treating her like dirt now, because she was hospitalised for a couple of time within the past 6 months. Her responsibilities are taken away from her and she's basically left doing the dirty stuff that are no brainers. I really pitied her, because it is not her wish that she got sick and had to be hospitalised. But the crappiest part had to be the vagueness of the whole situation. She is stuck in this job that she love(d) but she doesn't know her future because of her boss who has not given her a firm answer. If the boss doesn't trust her, then she should be told so that she can plan her future, isn't it so?

I've worked for a few bosses, and have to say that working for male bosses are the best. They are not petty like their female counterpart who take everything personally. Do something wrong, the female ones are likely to tell you 'You've betrayed me'. Right. I also like working for Malay bosses. For some reason I find them more courteous and refined. The Malay bosses are also more willing to share and teach you. Could it be that the Chinese bosses are just more kiasu, always afraid of you climbing on top of them? But having said that, I've also worked with Chinese bosses who are really good managers. For some reason I have been blessed enough to be working with bosses who have been thoroughly kind to me, no matter what race.

Work problems are inevitable in every workplace but must some bosses make life difficult for their subordinates? I'm sure everyone have their difficulties, whether a doctor, accountant, international tax lawyer, market researcher, cigarette freelancer, or even an astronaut, but if their bosses just show a little empathy, the workplace will be a much better place to be at, especially when you spend more than 8 hours a day there.

Here's a prayer to the annihilation of psycho bosses of the world. Here's a prayer for Ducky.

Psycho bosses make me sick
